GOODProjects is empowering youth and their families to live fulfilling lives free from poverty, while helping them develop the growth mindset to thrive in their own communities. Our mission is to eliminate the roadblocks to basic needs so families can define success for themselves on their pathway to achieving the American Dream.
Our work focuses on creating the place-based, sustainable model to turn poverty-dense communities defined as Opportunity Zones into
GOODZones where 100% of our families sustain incomes at or above $80k a year. We are working to achieve this vision, first for our home of Washington, D.C., and then expanding our model to help other communities nationwide become positive and empowered
GOODZones. Your support provides us the resources to continue to co-create with communities and their leadership in defining the future of social impact.
Through the pandemic, our dedicated program staff have been on the frontlines ensuring that young people living in the GOODZone have a safe and nurturing environment to excel academically in virtual learning. Monday through Friday, our Dreamers receive 1:1 support from our team of Direct Instructional Supports, hot meals, fun activities, on-site psychiatric and medical services. We also engage with our students' caregivers through Parent Cafes designed to support and connect community members.
Food insecurity will not be a reason our families are not able to achieve their dreams. Through our community partners and resident leadership, we directly deliver more than 500 grocery bags to Southwest residents on a weekly basis. Each grocery bag is filled with approximately 12 pounds of fresh, mostly local produce. We launched the program in March 2021 and have received high praise from both our families and their respective resident council presidents.
Through partnerships with George Washington University's School of Nursing and United Medical Center, residents have access to on-site nurses who provide basic health screenings (COVID, HIV) and wellness checks. GWU nursing students also do temperature checks, provide COVID safety supplies, and offer basic school nursing services to students at the Learning Hub.
GOODCamp is a six-week summer enrichment experience for children ages 8–17, providing access to nutritious meals, tutoring, mentorship, and recreational activities. Our camp builds community and instills a life-long love of learning. In addition to serving children, GOODCamp alleviates the financial strain on parents for childcare and the cost of weekly grocery shopping.
We are building a safe and open space for the community to gather, planting beautiful flowers, and expanding access to healthy fruits and vegetables. Lend a hand through scheduled Garden Workdays or ongoing maintenance at our new community garden.
